Innovative 40-metre zero-emission trimaran unveiled by Domus
Rob Doyle Design and Van Geest Design have collaborated to present Domus, a 40m sailing trimaran with an internal volume that rivals a 60m motor yacht.
With speed, space and eco-conscious sailing at the forefront of design, Domus aims to become the first truly zero-emissions yacht over 750 gross tons.
“The uniquely designed combination of solar power, hydroelectric regeneration technology and hydrogen fuel cells gives Domus unlimited range with zero emissions,” said the design team.
“An optimized system of solar energy and battery storage allows the yacht to run under power during daylight hours and then transfer to the battery system at night. This also means that Domus is completely silent with zero emissions while at anchor”.
Alongside real eco-credentials, Domus was designed with performance in mind. To reduce drag and improve speed, it will be able to skid at a two-degree angle. This will also ensure comfortable cruising with minimal body roll.
The interior space of the yacht covers 783 square meters divided over two decks. There are six guest cabins in total, with four VIPs and two large owner's suites, each with its own lounge area.
Facilities include a cinema room, gymnasium and lounge with bar. Domus also features a wellness area with swimming pool.
The word Domus means a one-story house built around an atrium, with many rooms opening off the central atrium. The yacht borrows aspects of this design to create a noble and open feeling on board.
