Pandemic, war, gas crisis, soaring prices, political uncertainty. There was enough to bring the whole country to its knees. Government bonuses and subsidies have avoided outright default and resilience has become the most common word. In this scenario of uncertainty and depression, it was possible to predict that a sector of our Made in Italy such as pleasure boating could record double-digit growth percentages, increasing production, sales, exports, turnover and even orders projected beyond 2024. ?
Two years ago, when the cursed virus infiltrated our lives, no one could have guessed it. On the other hand, the Italian nautical sector, which has always been a sector little supported by politics (which has never really understood the value of the sea economy), has literally conquered the world, increasing production, sales, exports and employment. An unexpected boom, which manifested itself plastically at the Cannes and Genoa boat shows, the first staged from 6 to 11 September, the second from 22 to 27 September.
Here, along the Franco-Italian coast between the French Riviera and Liguria , the Made in Italy of the sea showcased the best of our skills in terms of style, design, technology and innovation. Values that have generated unimaginable results: in the nautical year 1 September 2021 - 31 August 2022, production grew by 31%, reaching 6 billion and 110 million in value. The increase in turnover was 31.1%; exports (well supported by the ICE) reached an all-time high of 3.37 billion; + 9.7% growth in employees.
Our most important shipyards - Ferretti Group in the lead - presented themselves in Cannes and Genoa with fleets of yachts and superyachts capable of playing the role of the protagonists, exhibiting authentic jewels of a Made in Italy illuminated and projected on innovation. Which does not only concern naval, mechanical and performance engineering, but also style, the search for livable spaces on board, comfort and an increasingly direct relationship with the sea. Among the many new entries, the fleet of 25 boats, including 5 world premieres, for the Ferretti Yachts, Riva and Custom Line brands, in addition to the 2022 model year of the Itama 62RS, stands out. Both in Cannes and Genoa the innovative flybridge of the new Ferretti 860 and the exclusive Riva Anniversario, created to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the legendary Aquarama, conquered the scene.
Among the protagonists of this winning made in Italy also Sanlorenzo, who returned to a less nonconformist style with the SP (Sport Performance) line and in Genoa he conquered the scene with the SD118, flagship of the show with its 35.75 meters, a whiff more than the Amer 120 of the Permare group, which received the “Shipyard of the Year 2022” award at Cannes.
Among the most admired new entries the Fiart P54 designed by the star architect Stefano Pastrovich, the entire Pardo range and the most recent creations by Absolute, Arcadia, Canados, Cranchi, EVO, Rio, Rizzardi, Solaris. Also interesting are the new gozzo boats by Apreamare and Mimì, and many innovations in the outboard sector, with Honda and Suzuki in the foreground.
As always, the section dedicated to inflatable boats was very crowded: in evidence the first dinghy built by Rio, the 10-meter Inagua S, which received the Design Innovation Award. Among the maxi-RIBs, the 50 feet of Capelli Tempest, Prince Nuova Jolly and Pirelli P50 by Tecnorib made their debut, all protagonists of a very rich sector, within which the Anvera 58, a carbon giant of 17 meters, also stands out.
