Yachts are happy islands and even more so with Explorers

Pleasure craft and shipbuilding have shown unexpected resilience to the coronavirus epidemic, compared to other sectors of tourism and industry. Due to the distances imposed by the Covid emergency, in fact, the boat appeared to many as a sort of saving island on which to spend the summer.

Sergio Cutolo, engineer and famous yacht designer, whose design company, Hydro Tec, celebrates 25 years of existence in 2020, explains that customers are looking for yachts that can become happy islands even by staying out of ports. I agree with him the owners who appreciate more and more explorer yachts: it is a type of luxury boat, with characteristics that derive in part from the military, in part from supply vessels and tugs, able to guarantee the sailing for long periods in any marine weather condition and to carry out cruises in total autonomy.

“An explorer - says Cutolo - sails slowly, at 10 knots, but is comfortable and stable: whoever is on board does not suffer from the sea. Then it can have large cold rooms and tens of thousands of liters of diesel. Recently one of our customers left for a cruise using 12 cubic meters of cold storage and 75 thousand liters of fuel. In addition, on board there are jet skis, rafts and other toys that allow you to have fun while keeping the yacht as a base and staying moored in the harbor ".
